Whimsy Snake genetic codes are broken into three section: Colour, Markings and Physical.
The letters represent a certain trait of the snake, lets take 'Feathered' as an example, represented with an F or f in your snake's code.
Capital letters are dominant. Lower case letters are recessive.
Usually if a capital letter is present the gene/trait is visible.
Using 'Feathered' still - there are three possible combinations:
FF
Ff
ff
A capital 'F' means visible feathered wings!
However a few genes work the opposite way, so if a capital letter is present the gene will not be visible.
(Red,Marble and Horned)
Colour Genetics
Genetic string that determines what body colour the snake will have.
B/Br/b
Governs black, brown and blue. Black dominant to all, brown dominant to blue.
BB = Black
BBr = Black
Bb = Black
BrBr = Brown
Brb = Brown
bb = Blue
R/r
Governs red. Red is recessive but when visible overlays Black/Brown but combines with Blue (bb) to make purple.
RR - Not red
Rr - Not red
rr - Visible Red
Y/Yg/y
Governs yellow and green. Dominant to red and black/brown/blue.
YY - Yellow
YYg - Yellow
Yy - Yellow
YgYg - Green
Ygy - Green
yy - No Yellow
D/d
Dilute gene, dilutes the above colours.
DD - Double dilute (potentially lethal) produces white snakes (50% chance sterile)
Dd on Black - Grey
Dd on Brown - Cream
Dd on Blue - Light Blue
Dd on Red - Orange
Dd on Purple (rr/bb) - Lavender/Light Purple
Dd on Yellow - Off white/cream
Dd on Green - Light Green
dd - No Dilute
Markings
Genetic string that determines what markings (if any) a snake will have.
Piebald - P/p
White "gaps" in the colour of the body
PP - Piebald
Pp - Piebald (usually minimal)
pp - No Piebald
Spotting - S/s
Most common marking, spots heavy on the head and spread lightly across the body
SS - Spotted
Ss - Spotted
ss - Not spotted
Banding - BD/bd
Light or dark bands along the body of the snake
BDBD - Banding
BDbd - Banding
bdbd - Not banded
Marble - M/m
Random flecks, spots and stripes creating a dappled or marbled affect
MM - No marble
Mm - No marble
mm - Marble shows
Pinstripe - PS/ps
One long stripe down the spine (often mismarked in wild snakes)
PSPS - Pinstripe
PSps - Pinstripe
psps - No pinstripe
Ringed - RN/rn
Small oval markings along the spine.
OO - Ringed
Oo - Ringed
oo - Not ringed
Physical
Genetic string that determines what physical mutations a snake will show.
Quilled - Q/q
A feathered quill from the back of the head
QQ - Quilled
Qq - Quilled
qq - Not quilled
Feathered - F/f
Feather wings from the spine (sometimes on the tail too)
FF - Feathered
Ff - Feathered
ff - Not Feathered
Horned
Usually visible in a pair of horns on top of the head, but can include spine horns or nose horns.
HH - Not horned
Hh - Not horned
hh - Horned
Crystal
Small round crystals (usually a max of three)visible on the head or rarely the tail.
CC - Crystal shows
Cc - Crystal shows
cc - No crystals
